50 injured in scuffle among boys in social welfare hostel

Peddapalli: A scuffle among the inmates of the social welfare integrated boys hostel escalated into a street fight at Manthani of Peddapalli district, leaving a few injured. There are around 50 inmates in the hostel studying between Class 8 and Class 10.

A few students from higher classes attacked their juniors on Thursday night accusing them of stealing their study materials and for defying their instructions.

Horrified junior students ran out of the hostel building to save themselves. But the seniors chased them to the street, where some locals intervened to prevent the fight from escalating. They also informed hostel officials and teachers about the incident.

Hostel wardens Santosh and Ravi were not on the hostel premises when the juniors were attacked.

District collector Sangitha ordered an inquiry into the matter.

On the orders from district social welfare officer Naguleshwar, the assistant social welfare officer of Manthani mandal, P.Varuna visited the hostel and carried out an investigation.

After taking the statements from the students she prepared a report and submitted it to the higher officials.
