Hyderabad: An elderly woman and her three young daughters were reportedly assaulted by their relatives to get them to vacate their house in Hamalbasti on Saturday night, Chilkalguda police said on Sunday.

Police said Yadamma, the victim, stays on the first floor of her father’s house, and her brother Krishna along with his wife Mamata and sons Mahesh and Raghuram stay on the ground floor. Yadamma said her husband Narsing Rao had died a few years back after which Krishna and his family, with the help of local political leaders, were forcing her to vacate the house.

Yadamma’s daughter Kavya said that at 8.10 pm on Saturday night, “Mahesh, Raghuram and 15 others were drunk and entered my house. One of them punched me in the face while another man kicked my elder sister Vijayalakshmi in the stomach.” She said that one of the assaulters had lifted a stone to hit Yadamma. “When I tried to stop him, he pulled my chunni and abused us,” Kavya said.

“Before leaving, they threatened us with dire consequences if we did not vacate the house. We lodged a complaint with Chilkalguda police,” Yadamma said. “I also met our MLA but no action has been taken against them. No one from the basti came to support use.”

Chilkalguda inspector G. Naresh said the police had recorded the statements of the victims, and assured them that no harm would come to them. He said Yadamma and one of her daughters were given treatment in Gandhi Hospital as they suffered minor injuries.
