Hyderabad: Blood scamster links probed
Police has found bill books of more blood banks in the house of Narendra Prasad, who diluted blood with saline and sold it in the market.
Hyderabad: Blood bank technician Narendra Prasad, who had mixed blood and saline in the government blood bank at Koti Maternity Hospital, had bill books of other private blood banks.
The books were seized from his house in Saroornagar. Some samples of adulterated blood were found in the Koti Government Maternity Hospital.
A senior drug inspector of Telangana Drug Control Authority said the bill books were being studied. “They are evidence of where the blood was supplied. We are also trying to find out how did the private or public hospitals which used the blood never complained about it.”
More than 15 samples have been collected by the department and they are being tested for quality of the blood.
The drug inspectors believe that in all the samples the dilution must not be as high as it was in the sample that had been received by the complainant.
It is alleged that Prasad mixed saline in the blood and supplied it in the open market for blood transfusion.
Also how did the bill books of the private blood banks get into his hands is being probed. The drug inspectors are now asking the private blood banks to check on their accounts for the last one year. They also are inquiring into theft or loss of bill books as that is the evidence that will help them to nab Prasad and also his associates.
Another drug inspector explained, “It is not the handiwork of one person and there are many more involved. The premises of government blood bank which were used for operations are being probed.”
Hospital superintendent Dr Ratna Kumari has been asked to conduct an inquiry and submit the report to the director of health and medical education.
Dr M. Ramani, director explained, “All the government hospital blood banks have been asked to strictly monitor the quality of the blood in their banks. The staff also has been sensitised and the blood bank in-charge have been asked to maintain a strict vigil.”
Narendra used to take the blood donated in hospitals and mixed it with saline in the laboratory. He then attached labels of private blood banks and sold it. He is said to be absconding.
