Chennai: Man arrested for cheating women promising marriage

After receiving compaint from a woman doctor, police probe found that the accused, Chakravarthy, had cheated several women.

Chennai: A 35-year-old man who had cheated over nine women in Tamil Nadu of their money landed in police net a few days ago. The man was accused of befriending women on matrimonial sites and extorting money after promising to marry them.

The Chennai city police received a complaint from a woman doctor in the city stating that a man had cheated her of money after promising to marry her. Following an investigation, the police nabbed M.Vidyuth alias Chakaravarthy (35) of Tiruvannamalai.

 During interrogation, it was found that Chakaravarthy had cheated several women. According to police, Viduyuth would befriend woman doctors and engineers through matrimonial websites and identify himself as a doctor working in Washington.

 After interacting with the woman for a few days, he would express his desire to marry her. Police said he would tell them he wish to start a business and borrow a large sum of money under different pretexts from various women,

 At least Rs 9 crore have been extorted from the victims, police said.

 When the police started collecting information about him, they found that nearly eight women had registered cases against him in Anna Nagar station in Madurai and Lalkudi in Tiruchy and in other districts too.

“He keeps changing names to cheat women. He has been arersted and remanded several times.  He was arrested and produced before the magistrate in Poonamallee court and sent to prison” police said.
