Bengaluru: College student run over by speeding truck, sister survives
Deceased girl's parents agree to donate her eyes.
Bengaluru: A 19-year-old BCom student died on the spot while her sister escaped with minor injuries, after a speeding concrete mixer truck hit their scooter while trying to overtake them on Lalbagh road near Siddapura cross on Sunday morning.
The parents of the deceased later donated her eyes to the eye bank.
The deceased has been identified as Preethi R., a resident of Cottonpet. She was studying BCom final year at a private college in Jayanagar.
Her sister Lavanya, 29, who was riding the scooter managed to escape with injuries. Preethi's father Ravichandra works in a private company and her mother is a home-maker.
The police said the family agreed for eye donation at KIMS hospital before the post-mortem.
According to the police, the incident took place around 7:30 am, while the two were on their way to Lalbagh for a morning walk. When they reached Krumbigal road, a truck driver tried to overtake their scooter hit the scooter vehicle. Preethi fell on the road and got run over by the truck, while Lavanya suffered minor injuries.
The impact was so severe that the scooter broke into two pieces.
The passersby rushed them to a nearby hospital, where Preethi was declared brought dead.
The police said the truck driver abandoned the vehicle on the road and fled, which led to a traffic jam on Lalbagh Road.
The V.V. Puram traffic police rushed to the spot, seized the truck and cleared the traffic.
