3-year-old Delhi boy run over by school van that dropped him home
The driver has been taken into custody by the police for further investigation.
New Delhi: A three-year old boy was killed on Tuesday when he was crushed by his school van while the driver was allegedly reversing the vehicle without realising that the boy was standing behind it in Civil Lines area of north Delhi.
The victim, identified as Aviral was a student of John Wesley School and he was dropped off by his school van around 2 pm outside his house in Shri Ram Railway Colony today.
"The driver didn't check whether the boy was standing behind and reversed the vehicle. The boy was crushed under the wheels and was rushed to Parmanand Hospital where he was declared brought dead," deputy commissioner of police (North) Madhur Verma, said.
There were other children in the van when the incident happened.
The accused driver, Rahul, 28, ran away leaving the van but was caught later by the police.
A case under sections 279 and 304(A) IPC has been registered at the Civil Lines police station and the accused has been arrested, added the officer.
