Chittoor: Man sentenced to death for rape of minor, double murder
Vijayawada: Director general of police K.V. Rajendranath Reddy said on Tuesday that their conviction-based policing has helped Additional District Judge Court in Chittoor to award death sentence to a man involved in murders of a woman and her mother and rape of the woman’s minor daughter.
In 2021, Syed Moulali had developed an illicit relationship with a widow Sarala hailing from Gangireddipalli of Tamballapalli mandal in Annamayya district. Moulali murdered Sarala suspecting that she had developed a relationship with another man. When Sarala’s aged mother questioned him about her daughter’s whereabouts, Moulali also murdered her. He then raped the deceased woman’s minor daughter.
Police booked a case and carried out inquiry through conviction-based policing in 2022. They got a verdict of death sentence from the court in just 20 months.
The DGP said they have started implementing conviction-based policing involving senior police officers for cases pertaining to women and minors. He said out of 122 cases taken up for investigation, investigations have been completed in 108 cases. Of them, four cases have resulted in death sentences and 38 in life imprisonment. In the remaining cases, jail terms have been imposed ranging from seven years to 20 years.
