New Delhi: The probe into the sexual assault case of the minor girl by a suspended Delhi government official revealed that the accused officer allegedly drugged the victim before raping her, according to sources.

The official was produced in a city court and sent to judicial custody for a day, while his wife was also sent to judicial custody, as she is accused of giving the girl medicine to terminate her pregnancy.

While they were produced separately at the duty metropolitan magistrate court, the man’s lawyer contended that his client had undergone a vasectomy around 20 years ago.

Meanwhile, DCW chief Swati Maliwal ended her dharna at St Stephen’s Hospital, where the victim is admitted.

Maliwal requested Union home minister Amit Shah to direct the Delhi police to allow her to meet the minor and also called for an inquiry into the delay in arresting the accused and shifting the girl to AIIMS for better treatment.

According to the police, the minor girl started living with the accused, a family friend and her guardian, in Burari, after the death of her father on October 1, 2020.

A source familiar with the case said: “Accused had first sexually assaulted the girl on October 31, 2020, after drugging her.” The girl was 14 years old at that time.

The girl, who is now in Class 12, recently narrated the incident to a counsellor at the hospital where she was admitted due to an anxiety attack.

The police, based on her complaint, registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act on August 13. However, the accused was arrested only after nine days.

The victim girl is still admitted to the hospital, with her condition said to be unstable as she is still in trauma.

According to sources, the investigation into the case has further revealed that the victim was at least raped one more time by the accused. “We have got his custody and only after interrogation more details can come to the fore,” the source said.

The lawyer for the accused continued to stress that the girl could not have been impregnated as his client had undergone a vasectomy two decades ago. “The investigation is at a very preliminary stage but from the allegations levelled, it seems that the case is completely bogus as they accused of getting her pregnant, which is not at all possible as he had undergone vasectomy 20 years ago,” lawyer Umashankar Gautam said.

Gautam further said that the accused, as part of the investigation, has undergone all relevant tests to prove his innocence, which includes a potency test and surgical vasectomy test.

“All formalities have been completed,” he said.
