Kannur: The BJP has rubbished the revelations made by  party  worker Embrantavida Subeesh that he and three others were behind the killing of  NDF activist Mohammad  Fasal in 2006.   “Subeesh was tortured to extract the confession to save the  CPM men, and the conspiracy was hatched by two DySPs in the district,”  said BJP district president P. Sathyaprakasan and state cell convener K. Ranjith.  Subeesh made the confession while he was interrogated in connection with the murder of CPM leader K. Mohanan near Anjarakkandy  in October.

It may be recalled that  Kannur  CPM district secretariat member Karayi Rajan and Thiruvangad local committee secretary Karayi Chandrasekharan were  jailed after the CBI named them as  accused number 7 and 8 respectively in the Fasal murder case. The  state police will have little role in re-probing the  case which  was taken up by the CBI on February 14,  2008 after a petition by Fasal’s wife Mariyu in the High Court.   The CBI had also submitted a chargesheet.   DGP Loknath Behera told Deccan Chronicle that he was awaiting  a report from Kannur SP Sanjay Kumar Gurudin on the confession.

“I have received the video recordings of  the confessions  and verified them and am waiting for the recorded statements of the accused prepared by the district police chief.  Later, I will inform  the CBI about the new development in the Fasal murder case.  Any re-investigation in the case is up to the central agency to consider,”  he said. Referring to the confession made by Subeesh that the same team was behind the murder of CPM man  Chittariparambil Pavithran at  Kannavam in 2009, he said  a re-probe into it would  be considered.

Legal experts and political circles say that the new revelations may not help  the CPM  as  the party men  were arraigned during the LDF rule when Mr Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was the home minister.  If the CBI takes up the case again and finds the new revelations significant, the officers who investigated it earlier would  be answerable for holding the innocent guilty. They will also have to explain the conspiracy behind fabricating the charges against Karayi Rajan and Karayi Chandrasekharan.

Truth will be out one day: Karayi Rajan

“Truth will be out one day,”  according to  CPM district secretariat member Karayi Rajan  who has been chargesheeted by the CBI in the murder of NDF worker Fasal in 2006.    He was referring to  the confessions made by BJP worker  Subeesh that he and three others were behind the murder of Fasal.    Rajan is the eighth and CPM local committee member Karayi Chandrasekharan the seventh accused in the  case.

Rajan, who is out on bail, told DC over phone,  “three years have  gone since the CPM leaders were trapped in the case.  We pleaded with  the probing officers and the court several times about our innocence, but to no avail. We also expressed our willingness to undergo a narco-analysis test. But no one listened,” he  said. He and Chandrasekharan were arrested  and sent to jail. During the last local body poll, Rajan contested to the district panchayat and Chandrasekharan to the Thalasserry municipality. Both won and Karayi Rajan became the Kannur district panchayat president and Karayi Chandrasekharan the chairman of  Thalasserry municipality. Both put in their papers after the CBI named them in the chargesheet.
