Madrassa teacher held for assaulting minor girl at Ambalamughal
The victim's parents lodged a complaint with the Ambalamedu police.
Kochi: A 52-year old madrassa teacher has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl at a religious study centre at Ambalamughal near here. Hamsa, a native of Pandikad, Malapuram, was working as a teacher at the madrassa since July last year. “The seven-year-old girl got severely depressed and the change in her behaviour was noticed by her teachers. They informed the ChildLine volunteers who subjected her to counseling when she revealed her ordeal for the past several months” police said.
The victim’s parents lodged a complaint with the Ambalamedu police who registered various charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act, 2012. However, the accused fled and went into hiding. “A team of police officials finally managed him to nab him from his hideout in Malappuram on Sunday while acting on a tip-off. He was produced before the Chottanikkara Magistrate Court which remanded him in 14 days judicial custody,” they said.
