Tirupati: Seven nabbed for beating up youth over Facebook post
According to the police, Sarath Reddy and his friend used to make short films and often post them on their Facebook walls.
Tirupati: Chittoor urban division police arrested seven persons, including four min-ors, after a video showing the accused beating up a youngster, went viral.
The police have registered criminal cases against nine persons, in which seven were taken into custody, for allegedly beating the youngster, who posted objectionable comments on a Facebook post, which was uploaded by one Sarath Reddy, another accused.
According to the police, Sarath Reddy and his friend used to make short films and often post them on their Facebook walls. The victim, identified as Saadhik, had allegedly posted an objectionable comment and content against a girl under the Facebook post of the accused.
Sarath Reddy and a woman, believed to be his mother, from Mittur locality in Chittoor town had reportedly manhandled Saadhik at their residence, as a picture allegedly posted by the latter on Facebook showed a girl in poor light.
Later, Sarath Reddy had taken the victim to a nearby locality and mercilessly beat him up along with his friends. A video was recorded during the act and it went viral in the social media.
Acting on the complaint lodged by the victim and after verifying the video, 1 town police took the seven persons into custody and registered a case, after interrogation. Out the seven accused, three were produced before the court and remanded in the local sub jail. While the minors were shifted to the Juvenile home in Tirupati, the police are searching for the two absconding accused.
Meanwhile, Chittoor SP Vikrant Patil on Wednesday said that the department would take stringent action against those found to be circulating fake posts on the social media. He suggested the denizens to check thoroughly before posting anything on the social media.
