3 posing as IT officials take away ₹50 lakh from woman

VIJAYAWADA: Three men claiming to be Income Tax officials robbed a woman of ₹50 lahks in cash and 50 sovereigns of gold, apart from property documents, on Thursday.

According to police, the three arrived at the house of Yerramsetti Kalyani in Old Guntur in a car in the afternoon. They claimed to be from the Income Tax department and accused her of not paying her tax properly. They asked her to bring cash, gold and other documents.

A dazed Kalyani brought ₹50 lakh cash kept secure in a trunk box given to her by a family friend D. Prasad after the sale of his property some time ago, apart from gold jewellery and property documents.

However, Kalyani recovered and started questioning the men’s credentials. At this, they threatened her with a gun and fled along with the valuables in their car.

Police have booked a case and are investigating.
