Paapad-maker fined Rs 10000, made to stay till rise of court

According to the prosecution, Peter, 42 from Salem district, was into manufacturing and selling kulal appalams' in wholesale.

Salem: A court in Salem on Thursday imposed a novel punishment on a 42-year-old man by making him sit in the court hall till its closing hours for manufacturing ‘kulal appalam’ in an unhygienic manner. 

According to the prosecution, Peter, 42 from Vandikaran Nagar near Suramangalam in Salem district, was into manufacturing and selling ‘kulal appalams’ in wholesale. 

During an inspection, the Food Safety officials slapped a case on him for manufacturing unhygienic eatables. On hearing the case, judicial magistrate court IV Judge Lingam ordered Peter to sit in the court complex here until the closing hours and also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him.
