Perumbavoor cops bust major robbery gang

The trio was operating in the state for the past eight years.

KOCHI: The Perumbavoor police  busted a major gang from Tamil Nadu involved in a series of robberies in various parts of central Kerala districts on Thursday. The gang members were  identified as Krishnan alias Sundaran alias Vishnukutty, 42,  his brother Pandian alias Santosh Pandian, 35, both belonging to Kamakshipuram in Theni district, and  Rajendran, 58, hailing from Alakapuri.           The police team headed by Perumbavoor circle inspector Baiju Poulose traced the hideout of the gang in Tamil Nadu last week and took them into custody. According to preliminary interrogation, the gang was behind the  back-to-back robbery cases reported from Vengola, Marble Junction and Thadiyathu Parambu, near Perumbavoor. 

They had committed  several thefts and robberies in central Kerala, police said. Krishnan and Pandian  monitored the targeted house for robbery during  daytime and  the trio would break into the house at night along with Rajendran, an expert belonging to  Thirittugramam village.  The gang would attack the householders in case of resistance, police said.   The trio was operating in the state for the past eight years. The police also gathered information about six other persons associated with the gang.  The three  were produced in a local court and the police will seek  their custody in the coming days.
