Guntur: Drunk man's negligence kills over 3,000 chicken

GUNTUR: In a tragic incident nearly 3,000 chickens died in a fire accident at Pedakancherla village of Vinukonda mandal in Guntur district on Friday. A cell tower, paddy grass stock and thatched house also gutted down in the mishap. According to the reports, a drunk man reportedly set his house ablaze and the flames spread to the adjacent hatchery killing 3,000 chicken.
Vinukonda fire department officer, B.S. Mallikarjuna Rao said, “The accused, Maddineni Veeranjaneyulu, set his house on fire in an inebriated condition and the flames spread to nearby paddy grass and adjacent hatchery.” The hatchery owner Chirumamilla Anjaneyulu claimed that 3,000 chickens were burnt alive.
He said that they lodged a complaint against Veeranjaneyulu with the Vinukonda rural police and added that a fire tender reached the spot immediately to doused the fire. He pegged the loss due to the accident at Rs 15 lakh. The paddy cultivators Puchakayala Pedda Anjaneyulu and Puchakayala Chinna Anjaneyulu claimed that Rs 1 lakh worth paddy was burnt.
Mr Rao said that Rs 16 lakh worth chicken, paddy grass was burnt in the mishap and a Reliance cellphone tower was also damaged. The Vinukonda rural police registered the case and started investigation.
