Hyderabad: 800gm of gold seized at RGIA

The customs officials arrested the two and seized gold worth of Rs 26 lakh.

Hyderabad: In two different cases, the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of the Hyderabad Customs seized around 800 grams of gold from two air passengers who were trying to smuggle the yellow metal into the country at the Shamshabad airport on Saturday.

In one case, the gold bars were concealed in a drilling machine while in the second instance the gold was concealed in a travel cooker.

The customs officials arrested the two and seized gold worth of Rs 26 lakh.

In the first case the Customs AIU intercepted a passenger who arrived at Shamshabad on Saturday.

While checking the passenger’s baggage, the officials found a drilling machine. When it was opened, gold was found concealed inside.

Speaking about the case, an AIU official said, “The passenger had arrived by Flight XY235 carrying four gold bars. Two gold bars weighing 250 grams each and two others 50 grams each, weighing 600 grams and valued at Rs 19,83,600, were concealed in angle drilling machine. A case has been registered for further investigation.”

In another case, a passenger who arrived in Flight 6E-025 from Dubai was caught while attempting to smuggle 219.63 gm of gold worth Rs 7.05 lakh.

The gold was concealed in a silver coated gold plate concealed in a travel cooker.
