KAKINADA: Pithapuram senior civil judge K. Madhavi sentenced Mummidi Subrahmanyam (47), a junior assistant working with South Eastern Central Railway in Bilaspur, to undergo 10 years imprisonment for attempting to kill his wife on May 25, 2018.

As per the prosecution, Subrahmanyam and his wife Subbalakshmi had gone to Kondevaram village on May 25, 2018, and returned to their house at Pithapuram in the night.

Subrahmanyam wanted his wife to transfer to him 10 acres of land she had in her name in the village. But she had been refusing. On the day they returned from the village, he again raised the matter. When she refused, he indiscriminately stabbed her multiple times and presuming she would die fled from the spot.

However, Subbalakshmi regained consciousness and dragged herself out. Locals noticed her and called 108 ambulance. They shifted her to Government General Hospital in Kakinada, where she recovered and lodged a complaint.

In addition to undergoing 10-year-imprisonment, Subrahmanyam has been fined ₹5,000.

Pithapuram Town sub-inspector Shobhan Kumar registered a case and built up evidence under the guidance of Pithapuram circle inspector Y.R.K. Srinivas. Public prosecutor Damera Kiran argued the case leading to a conviction.
