Severe financial problems drive Hyderabad realtor to death
Police said Mahipal Reddy hanged himself on a tree as he was troubled by financial problems.
Hyderabad: A 42-year-old realtor from Mailardevpally committed suicide on the campus of Prof. Jayashankar Agricultural University on Sunday. Police said Mahipal Reddy hanged himself on a tree as he was troubled by financial problems.
Mahipal Reddy, who claims to be a TRS worker and a distant relative of Mailardevpally corporator T. Srinivas Reddy, left a suicide note addressed to IT minister KTR, saying that bonafide TRS activists were being ignored after leaders from other parties defected to the TRS. In his suicide note as his last wish he appealed to KTR to give an MLA ticket in the 2019 elections to his uncle T. Srisailam Reddy.
Mahipal Reddy, who hails from Shadnagar in Ranga Reddy district, was an ‘active’ TRS party worker. He suffered huge losses in the real estate business and sold his farmland in his village to clear debts. A few months ago he sold his house in Mailardevpally to clear debts.
But still he could not come out of the crisis and there were frequent fights in his family. His relatives said he worked actively during the GHMC elections in 2016 and campaigned for TRS candidate Srinivas Reddy. “He was a hardcore TRS activist. But he was depressed by the present party equations in the Mailardevpally area,” a relative said.
“Believing your powerful speech in Katedan during the elections, people voted for TRS but this happiness lasted only for a few days as a TDP leader joined the TRS. A corporator who worked hard for TRS and won is under pressure from the MLA who crossed over from the TDP and as a result people are losing faith in TRS. This is not limited to Mailardevpally, but is true of all areas where MLAs from other parties joined the TRS,” his suicide note said.
As per his routine, Mahipal Reddy came for a morning walk on the university campus early in the morning. Around 7.30 am other walkers found him hanging on a tree and informed the police. A suspicious death case was registered and the body was handed over to his family after post-mortem. Mahipal Reddy is survived by his wife and a son and a daughter.
