Hyderabad: A three-member gang of robbers allegedly targeted women sleeping on terraces in summer on the outskirts, and snatched their gold chains. The trio robbed 14 women in the last two weeks, police said.
After receiving an alert, Cyberabad special teams nabbed the trio on Monday night. Police recovered 450 grams of gold ornaments (14 mangal sutras) worth Rs 13 lakh from them.
The suspects are Mudavath Sreenu, 30, and his father Mudavath Kishan, 58, and Pathlavath Ramla, 28, all belonging to Thimmajipet mandal in Nagarkurnool district.
“The gang committed four robberies in the Shabad area, two in the Chevella area, two in Keshampet area, and one in Shamshabad. They also robbed four people in Maheshwaram and created terror among villagers,” said Cyberabad JCP Shanawaz Quasim.
Police officials said that one of the suspects Kishan was an old criminal having a criminal record of more than 25 years.
“Earlier he was involved in vehicle thefts, dacoities and chain snatchings in Mahbubnagar and Hyderabad. He trained his son Sreenu in robbery. P. Ramla is their relative who joined the father and son,” said Quasim.
After receiving many complaints from villagers, Shamshabad DCP P.V. Padmaja set up a special team and launched a unt for the gang. The police team tracked them down to their hideout in city outskirts.
Senior officials said that PD Act will be initiated against all the suspects soon.
