Man mistaken for member of gang, thrashed

Hyderabad: The Pahadishareef police registered a case against one Venu Goud from Mamidpally and others on Wednesday for thrashing a man in public on suspicion that he was a member of the Parthi gang, which is known to indulge in robberies.

Pahadishareef inspector P. Laxmikanth Reddy said the identity of the victim could not be established as he escaped. The man was seen near Devendranagar Colony in Mamidpally, which is close to the Pahadishareef police station.

At about 5 pm, a few local youth stopped him suspecting that he was a member of the Parthi gang. The man wearing a kurta pyjama was assaulted by the youth. Venu Goud, a counsellor, thrashed the victim even as the crowd watched the assault.

A case under IPC Section 324 (causing hurt) was registered in the Pahadishareef police. An official said police was trying to locate the victim.
