Bengaluru: A gang tried to abduct a 35-year-old Asia-Pacific head of internal communications of a multinational IT company during the peak hour morning on Thursday in Marathahalli in full public view allegedly over a property dispute. Fortunately the victim, Anshuman Kumar managed to free himself from his abductors who managed to take him in their car for a distance of a few hundred metres in the busy traffic at 8:30 am. Anshuman has lodged a complaint of kidnapping, wrongful restraint, and assault against the perpetrators with the HAL police station immediately after the incident.
Anshuman who is a resident of Purva Riviera in Marathahalli was on his way to work as usual in his Honda City. When he reached near Marathahalli bridge, a Santro car brushed against his car and vanished. When Anshuman got down to check what happened, another car, a Ford Ecosport came towards him braking in filmy style and two to three men got down and started pulling him inside their car.
He was shoved inside the Ford Ecosport and the gang took away him, said a friend of the victim. As the traffic was heavy, they could drive only slowly, and meanwhile Anshuman screamed out for help. The gang also attempted to strangle him and during the struggle he sustained bruises. Passersby suspected something was amiss and started gathering around the car. The gang was forced to abandon the victim and fled the spot.
Anshuman who rushed to the HAL police station lodged a complaint stating the gang had assaulted him and tried to abduct him over a property dispute. Anshuman owned a property in Bihar and had told a realtor to sell it and send the money to him. According to the complainant, the realtor had taken money from a buyer showing Anshuman’s property and had kept it for himself. The attempt of assault and kidnap could be the handiwork of the realtor or the buyer’s men, he alleged in his complaint.
However, HAL police maintained that it looked like a case of road rage as the men in the Ford Ecosport tried to force Anshuman to come along to the police station for allegedly causing the accident. “We have registered a case of kidnap, wrongful restraint and assault,” said a senior police officer.
