Bengaluru: In a surprise drive to check on wheeling and drag racing on Thursday night, Peenya traffic police booked 19 youths and seized 19 vehicles for violating the traffic rules. The violators were performing stunts on Peenya elevated flyover and intercepted by cops near Parle factory.

Police officials said their driving licences would be seized and would be recommended for suspension. The police said the drive was a part of preventive measure to stop wheeling and drag racing, which often result in grievous injuries and loss of lives as well.

Police said they came across a group of 70-80 youth in different bikes coming towards Parle factory through Peenya elevated flyover. All the bikers were speeding and performing stunts. As police officials intercepted the bikers, most of them took U-turn and fled. They could, however, catch 19 among them.

"All the bikes have been seized and the bikers are sent to court. We will seize their licence and recommend for their suspension," the police said. Meanwhile, Banaswadi traffic police also conducted similar drives near Outer Ring Road, Babusa Palya and Horamavu junctions.

As they tried to stop riders involved in wheeling and drag racing, the riders abandoned their bikes and fled. The police have seized as many as eight bikes and cases have been registered against the owners.
