Counterfeit currency case: Parties call for thorough probe
His brother, Rajiv, who is the second accused in the case, is still absconding.
Thrissur: Both CPM and the Congress have come out with a demand for a probe by the police into the links of two Yuva Morcha (YM) functionaries who are involved printing and circulation of counterfeit currencies. YM functionary Erassery Rakesh was picked up by the cops from his house in Mathilakam during raids on Thursday and he was presented in the court on Friday. His brother, Rajiv, who is the second accused in the case, is still absconding. Rakesh has been slapped with IPC 489 for printing counterfeit currency, section 34 of IPC and section 17 of the Money Laundering Act.
CPM district secretary K. Radhakrishnan said a detailed inquiry in the case related to the printing of counterfeit currency notes and seizure of a machine from the house of the siblings need to be carried out. “It is now clear that the BJP government, which introduced demonetisation to curb fake currencies, was actually helping the party workers for making counterfeit currency,” he alleged.
He demanded that the case be transferred to a senior police officer to ascertain whether top BJP leaders were involved. DCC president T N Prathapan also came up with a similar demand on Friday. “The BJP and the RSS are providing huge sums of money in the region to lure the youngsters, and they are give protection by goons as well,” he said. “The investigation should ascertain if the money is coming from such mafia groups."
