BHU male student gangraped by 5; varsity, police drag their feet
The student was gangraped in a moving car and was dumped in an open ground near the agricultural department of the university.
Lucknow: A 19-year-old student has reportedly been gangraped in the campus of Banaras Hindu University two weeks ago.
According to reports, Animesh (name changed), went to the Microbiology Department of Sri Sunderlal Hospital in the university campus to collect some medical reports pertaining to his sister-in-law who was then admitted in the hospital, when he was stopped on the way by five men.
In his complaint to the police, the first year MA Hindi student alleged that he was forced to drink liquor and raged into a car stationed nearby, which carried a department logo of the university.
The five men reportedly took turns raping Animesh in the moving car, and after the ordeal, he was dumped in the open grounds close to the agricultural department in the university.
The car was not stopped by patrolling vehicle of the proctorial board nor the security staff as it drove around within the campus varsity for the longest time.
After being thrown out of the car, Animesh reportedly called 100 immediately, but the police reportedly took four days to reach him.
Animesh was forced to go through a second medical examination after the incident, despite the doctors confirming rape in the first test.
His family and friends have alleged that the university administration and police were trying to hush up the matter.
Claiming that her son’s mental condition has deteriorated, Animesh’s mother pleaded, “Somebody please stop my son from committing suicide.”
Acknowledging the attack on the student, the Chief Proctor of BHU, Satyendra Kumar Singh, said, "We are aware of the incident. What can we do if the police is delaying the investigation? The vice-chancellor is out on a visit. We will constitute an inquiry committee when he comes back. The action would be taken based on the findings of the committee."
