Hyderabad: Honour killing claims life of 27-year-old lady
In-laws threatened to kill him too, says husband.
Hyderabad: For 28-year-old B. Suresh, it has been a week of trauma. He lost three members of his family in five days. He lost his mother in a road accident on August 19, his wife Y. Vijaya Lakshmi, 27, and their unborn child was brutally murdered by her family members on Thursday.
"It was all planned by my wife's parents and relatives. They waited till my mother's final rites were done and executed their plan," said a sobbing Suresh.
Suresh and his wife Vijaya Lakshmi participated in the rituals in connection with the last rites of the former's mother till Wednesday.
Suresh's mother Sukamma died in a road accident on Sunday at Abdullapurmet.
At about 8 am, Vijaya Lakshmi was cleaning the trash in front of the house and Suresh was helping her.
All of a sudden, Vijaya Lakshmi's mother Vanamma, two aunts, her maternal uncles grabbed her and started taking her away.
“It is an irreparable loss for me. My mother died on Sunday and my wife has now been killed. She was seven months pregnant. They did not even consider that and inhumanly killed her by throttling her and slitting her throat,” he said.
Abdullapurmet inspector M. Muni said, “The woman's parents and relatives reportedly were unhappy with her marriage. When they dragged her into the community hall, a woman was having food there.”
“On seeing Vijaya Lakshmi and her family members shouting, she ran out of the community hall and informed the locals. Had Suresh intervened and at least made some effort to stop his in-laws, the woman would not have been killed,” the inspector said.
“They dragged her from the front of my house and took her aside. When I tried to rescue her, they asked me to stay away and threatened to kill me,” Suresh reportedly told the police, when asked why he could not restrain his in-laws.
Suresh said, “Vijaya Lakshmi and I belong to the same community and were neighbours. After marrying her, I did not want trouble in our lives and went to Bhadrachalam. We did not have any other problem with her family, except that we got married against their wishes.”
