‘Cocon’ to chat darknet crimes: 2,000 delegates for global meet in Kochi

This time, darknet and counter- defence against the digital warfare will be the main themes of the conference.

KOCHI: Around 2,000 delegates from over 25 countries are expected to attend the12th edition of the international cyber security conference, Cocon, to be held here on September 27 and 28.

This time, darknet and counter- defence against the digital warfare will be the main themes of the conference. Crimes related to darknet and how they  can be reduced will also be discussed.

Experts, including Dr Paul Vixie, founding member — ICANN root server system advisory committee and the ICANN security and stability advisory committee; Ryan Sherstobitoff, senior analyst, major campaigns at Mcaffee; John Rouse, detective inspector, Queensland police and Roshy John, global head, robotics and cognitive systems at TCS will speak at the event.

A modern exhibition of cyber security and digital threats will also be organised along with the conference where representatives from major IT companies in the world will participate.

“There will be a two-day workshop on September 25 and 26 before the main conference sessions. The nine workshops would mostly deal with the darknet and its techniques with the latest know-how. There will also be nine sessions based on this,” said Manoj Abraham, ADGP, headquarters and nodal officer, Kerala Police Cyberdome.

He said that a security operations sector, also known as a darknet lab, had been launched at the cyberdome focusing on the dark side of the web with new technical features. “The cyber attacks are increasing day-by-day as they cripple the country. We have traced drugs, credit card data and fake passport dealings with Kerala connection in the darknet. We cracked the codes used in these shady dealings with a new software to infiltrate into the darknet,” he said.
