Man gets life imprisonment for murder in Nellore dargah

The SP underlined that the case has been resolved relatively swiftly, with the conviction occurring within a span of just 11 months

Tirupati: Third Additional District and Sessions Judge L. Thejovathi has awarded life imprisonment to a person for killing the muzavar of the dargah adjacent to CAM School in Nellore city on September 23, 2022.

Disclosing details to media persons on Wednesday, Nellore superintendent of police Dr. K. Tirumaleswara Reddy said following legal proceedings in the court, the judge has found accused Shaik Khaja (30) of Moolapet guilty of murder charge. Khaja will also have to pay a fine of ₹3,000.

The SP underlined that the case has been resolved relatively swiftly, with the conviction occurring within a span of just 11 months. He attributed it to comprehensive collection and submission of evidence by police.

Tirumaleswara Reddy said, “Khaja has a history of engaging in illicit activities. He used to consume ganja within the dargah premises. One day, dargah's muzavar Sulthan admonished Khaja and instructed him to cease consuming ganja within the premises of the dargah. Following this, Khaja took affront and murdered Sulthan on September 23 last year.”

The SP said Khaja has 37 cases registered against him, including dacoity and theft, at the Chinna Bazar police station.

Circle inspector B. Ashok Kumar and SI Sd. Lathifunnesa, under the guidance of DSP D. Srinivasa Reddy, presented the witnesses during the trial.
