Rajahmundry: Shop owner booked for assaulting girl

According to Mandapeta police, the girl was sent to the shop by her mother to purchase rangoli colours on Sunday afternoon.

The incident came to light when the girl started crying following which the parents of the girl along with neighbours barged into Mathew's house and caught him sexually assaulting the girl. Mathew who tried to flee was caught and thrashed mercilessly.

Rajahmundry: A kirana shop owner was booked on charges of sexual assault of a six year old girl at Z. Medapadu village of Mandapeta mandal in East Godavari on Monday.

According to Mandapeta police, the girl was sent to the shop by her mother to purchase rangoli colours on Sunday afternoon. When the girl failed to return home after a long time, her mother reached the shop looking for her. While the mother was searching for her, the girl came out from the kirana shop crying. When the woman inquired why she was crying, the girl told her that the shop owner, identified as Suri Babu, took her into the room to give the rangoli colours and misbehaved with her.

The victim's family members lodged a complaint with the police who in turn registered a case under Sections 354 (A) and (B) of IPC and also under relevant provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
