Hyderabad: A village revenue officer working in Sangareddy was caught red-handed by sleuths of the Anti Corruption Bureau while accepting a bribe on Thursday. N. Venkateshwar, 40, works as VRO for wards 19 to 24 in Sangareddy town.

The ACB said Venkateshwar had demanded bribe from the family of an employee, Arifuddin, of the irrigation department to issue them a legal heir certificate after his death in May. Officials recovered the bribe amount of '2,000 from his possession.

Arifuddin’s son Aleemuddin had applied in September to get a legal heir certificate in his mother’s name. When there was a delay in getting a response, he found that the inquiry report was not submitted by Venkateshwar.

He asked Venkate-shwar about inquiry report for which the VRO demanded '5,000 as bribe but settled for '2,000. He told Arifuddin that he would collect the bribe at his shop in Sangareddy on Thursday morning.

Arifuddin approached the ACB, who caught Venkateshwar while accepting the money. He was arrested and will be produced before the ACB court.
