Bengaluru: The Bommanahalli police arrested a gang of five who had earlier kidnapped a car driver along with his car for ransom. With their arrest, the police have solved eight cases and recovered valuables worth Rs 3.63 lakh.
The arrested have been identified as Krishna Nayak, 24, Yashwanth Kumar, 23, Ramesh, 20, Shashikumar, 22 and Arun Kumar, 20.
On October 16 around 11.45 pm, the accused kidnapped Haribabu with his Tata Indica car from Gurumurthy Reddy Layout in Bommanahalli police limits. They later contacted his brother Ashok and demanded a ransom of Rs 50,000. Ashok transferred the money to Haribabu’s account from which the accused withdrew the money and released him three days later.
A case was registered at the Bommanahalli police station and a special team was formed who traced the accused. The investigation revealed that Krishna Nayak had been booked on attempt to murder charges at the Bannerghatta police station. He had burnt a car and an autorickshaw over a personal rivalry in Konanakunte police limits.
The police said the gang members, who wanted to lead a lavish life, started robbing lone walkers in deserted areas and threatened them with lethal weapons. With their arrest, the police solved eight cases of robbery in the city and recovered valuables worth Rs 3.63 lakh, including the stolen Tata Indica car.
The Bommanahalli police registered a case and seized the weapons used to commit the crimes.
