Raipur: Three Maoists were on Sunday gunned down in an encounter with security personnel in Dantewada district under south Bastar in Chhattisgarh.

The encounter took place at around 5.30 pm in the forest between Tumak Pal and Dabbakunna under Katekalyan police station limits in the district, a senior police officer of the district said.

A joint search party comprising personnel of district reserve group (DRG) and Bastar Fighters, the newly raised counterinsurgency wing of Chhattisgarh police, came under attack by the Maoists in the forest near Tumak Pal, leading to a fierce encounter between them.

Later, bodies of three Naxals in uniform were recovered at the encounter site, the police officer said.

Huge cache of arms and ammunition were also recovered at the site, he added.

The three slain ultras belong to the Darbha division of the outlawed CPI (Maoist), according to the police officer.
