The case was solved within a span of 20 hours and the accused arrested within 40 hours.
Hyderabad: The mulakath records at Cherlapally Central Prison and the CCTV footage helped the Hyderabad city police to crack a case of dacoity where a mechanical engineer from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh was robbed by a gang of seven persons including three students, when he was on his way to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
The sketch for dacoity was planned at Cherlapally Central Prison, when the accused and the victim, went to meet their relatives lodged at the prison for various offences.
Deepanjay Bundela, a mechanical engineer from Ujjain came to the city on January 17 to meet his brother-in-law, who was arrested by the Cyberabad police in a cheating case. The next day, Deepanjay met Prajapathi to discuss bail.
On Tuesday, he had to return to his native place and booked a flight. But he went back to the central prison at noon and took an appointment to meet his relative. As it was lunch time, he had to wait.
A group of three persons waiting to meet two murder accused prisoners, engaged in a conversation with Deepanjay and learned about his personal details and financial status. While returning, they offered him a lift to Shamshabad.
They started towards the airport, but instead, they took him to an isolated place in Kalapthar and robbed the engineer of Rs 18,000 cash, two gold earrings and one mobile phone.
The police subsequently arrested three graduate students Syed Younus, 23, Syed Zainul Abedeen, 20, and Mir Mouzam Ali, 23, Mohd Nadeem Qureshi, 21, Mohd Khaleeluddin, 22, Mohd Ibrahim, 23, and Mohd Ali Qureshi, 29, and recovered the stolen property.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner Mr Anjani Kumar said "With the records present with the Prisons Department about the persons visiting the central prison for mulakath, the accused were identified. We also used the footage of CCTV cameras to nab them. The case was solved within a span of 20 hours and the accused arrested within 40 hours."
