The father said he murdered his daughter as he was against her relationship with a boy, SP said.
Rampur: In a suspected case of honour killing, a man allegedly strangulated his 16-year-old daughter to death and then burnt her body, in a bid to hide her identity, at a village here, police said on Saturday.
The girl's father was arrested from Hasanpur North village, last evening, nine days after the victim's body was found in a field, Rampur SP K K Chaudhari said, adding the accused confessed to his crime during interrogation.
He said the half-burnt body of the girl was found on March 15, a day after she was killed.
The father said he murdered his daughter as he was against her relationship with a boy, the SP said.
The girl had developed closeness with the boy when she was studying at a school in Uttarakhand's Sultanpur village, Chaudhari said.
The accused also said that after committing the crime, he went on a pilgrimage to Jammu, the SP said.
The man has been booked under relevant sections of the IPC, he added.
