HYDERABAD: More names are likely to come out with the Central Bureau of Investigation now focusing on persons who had prepared and supplied fake patta passbooks to aggregators and borrowers to obtain Kisan Credit Card loans from IDBI Bank.

The CBI registered two cases against 41 persons, including a few senior officials of the bank, for swindling money after taking loans for pisciculture in the two Telugu States. The officials said borrowers swindled around Rs 539.05 crore by submitting forged documents.

During inquiry, bank officials could not locate the fish tanks or lands mentioned in the rec-ords. This was informed to the CBI in the complaint, following which they verified with the revenue officials and came to know about the fake patta books.

In a few records, bank officials had verified the names of the persons holding the land but it did not match with the names of the persons who had obtained loans.

Officials said the fraud largely was possible as the borrowers and aggregators had managed to obtain fake pass and patta books from some persons. Though, the CBI had not made any arrest so far, itconducted searches at the offices of the bank valuers in the two States.
