Youth hacked to death near Salem

Salem: In a brazen attack in broad daylight, a 26-year-old youth was hacked to death by a four-member group near Kullaveeranpatti near Mettur in Salem district on Saturday. Police said that Kannan, a science graduate and son of a deceased employee of the Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited (Tamin) waiting for state appointment on compassionate grounds after his father's death, was murderously pursued by a gang of four after they intercepted the bike the youth was riding this morning.

The gang members first inflicted a cut on Kannan with a sickle they were carrying after abruptly stopping his motorcycle. A shocked Kannan ran for his life and got into a house for hiding. But the miscreants pursued him heartlessly, entered the dwelling, severely hacked Kannan at several places and fled the scene, police said.

Kannan died on the spot and on information Mettur police rushed to the spot and sent his body to the Mettur government hospital for post-mortem.
