Palamaner school principal suspended after Class X girl’s suicide
Misbah’s parents Nazeer Ahmed and Naseema alleged that Brahmarshi school principal Ramesh has ill-treated their daughter
TIRUPATI: A school principal has been placed under suspension after the suicide of a Class X girl, who is topper of her class, took a political turn in Palamaner constituency in Chittoor district.
Misbah Fathima, studying at Brahmarshi High School in Gangavaram, committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of her house about three days ago. Following the incident, Misbah’s parents Nazeer Ahmed and Naseema alleged that Brahmarshi school principal Ramesh has ill-treated their daughter. He even served her a TC for no reason just before the academic year was coming to an end in a month’s time.
However, a day after the incident, a four-page suicide note left behind by the victim came to light. In the note, Misbah said being a topper in her class had turned a curse as another girl student, a friend of her who could not match her in studies, pressured management of the school into getting her removed from the school, so that she could come first in the class.
Misbah Fathima, in her letter, called her father Nazeer a hero and her inspiration. She asked him to forgive her for taking the extreme step. She stated that she was unable to bear the inhumane act of school management and was hence ending her life.
On seeing the note, Misbah’s parents staged a protest at the DSP office in Palamaner on Thursday. Speaking to reporters here, Misbah’s sister Haseena alleged that police are supporting the accused, as she belongs to the family of a ruling YSR Congress leader.
“A day after the incident, police barged into our house at around 2 a.m., saying they wanted to inspect the crime scene and belongings of my sister. They forced us to stay out of the house, and then forcibly took us away in a bid to protect the accused," Haseena alleged.
Meanwhile, Telugu Desam general secretary Nara Lokesh made a series of tweets on the incident. He demanded that the government take stern action against the school principal as well as another person Sunil, who are responsible for Misbah’s death.
Former minister N. Amarnath Reddy and representatives of Muslim organisations extended solidarity to Misbah’s parents and staged protests at the DSP's office demanding justice for the deceased girl student.
