Thanjavur: Four life terms for man abusing mentally-ill minor
He abused his 17-yr-old daughter when his wife was away and threatened to kill her if she revealed the matter to his wife.
Thanjavur: In a very traumatic case, a Mahila court here on Tuesday sentenced Subramanian (50) of Sivakollai near Pattukottai to undergo four life imprisonments for sexually abusing his own mentally challenged 17-year-old daughter and made her pregnant and another six years imprisonment for threatening her daughter not to reveal it to others lest he will kill her.
The prosecution case was that, Subramanian, a painter and husband of Revathi, a daily wage worker, sexually assaulted his mentally retarded daughter when his wife was away once to Melamaruvathur. When the child shouted, he stuffed cloth into her mouth and again sexually assaulted her. The accused also threatened her that he would kill her if she revealed the matter to his wife. Poor daughter did not tell the matter to her mother.
After that Subramanian continued to sexually abuse his daughter whenever his wife was away and also on school holidays, the prosecution said.
On March 27, 2017, his daughter developed stomach pain. When his wife Revathi took her to hospital, doctor said that her daughter was pregnant. Later, the girl gave birth to a female child. When Revathi asked her daughter who was responsible for this, she revealed that Subramanian was the culprit, the prosecution said.
On a complaint given by Revathi, a case was registered, police arrested Subramanian and the case was heard by the Mahila court at Thanjavur.
On Tuesday, Mr. Balakrishnan, the Mahila court judge in his order sentenced Subramanian to undergo four life imprisonments for sexually assaulting his mentally retarded daughter and another six months for holding out a murder threat to her. The judge said that accused should remain in jail for his entire life.
