Andhra Pradesh: Four of eight accused in gang rape surrender

It may recalled that two girls of Primitive Tribal Group (PTG) were gang-raped by eight youngsters.

Visakhapatnam: K. Varun, prime accused in the rape of two tribal girls, along with three others surrendered bef-ore the Chintapalle police station on Wednesday. Four more accused in the case, including son of police constable Lochali Siva Nagendra, are still at large. It may recalled that two girls of Primitive Tribal Group (PTG)  were gang-raped by eight youngsters, including the sons of TD leaders and a son of police constable, in a school building near Tajangi area under Chintapalle police station limits in Vizag Agency on May 20 night.

Sub-inspector of Chintapalle, K. Ramesh said Siva Nagendra is expected to surrender on Thursday. Those who surrendered include K. Varun, son of local Telugu Des-am leader and MPTC K. Ananda Rao, M. Prasad, T. Bala-krrshna and S. Naidu. “Except Siva Nagendra, the identity of the other three is still not known. We are interrogating the arrested youth for identification of the three accused and hope they too will surrender,’’ Mr Ramesh said.

Meanwhile, pressure is mounting on the police after Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and a few other ministers have asked the superintendent of police (Visakha Rural) Rahul Dev Sharma to investigate the case in all the aspects and nab the accused immediately.

AP Mahila Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari, ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao, Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu and local MLAs visited King George Hospital and consoled the victims.
