Nellore: 11 held for organising single number lottery

Nellore: Nellore Chinna Bazar police arrested 11 persons involved in single number lottery in the limits of the station on Wednesday and recovered `47,000 cash, three motorbikes and 11 mobile phones from the offenders.
The modus operandi of the accused was to lure daily wage labourers, auto drivers and hawkers with `8 for every rupee they are putting in the lottery. The illegal operations of the gang and their whereabouts came to light when police picked up the gang leaders Shabbeer and Imtiaz and grilled them.
During interrogation, the two offenders said they have 9 more associates and that they have been attracting lower strata of the society to play the single number lottery.
Their victims also include gold ornament workers and other petty traders in Kotamitta, Janda street, Brundavanam, Santha-pet, Venkateswara-puram, Janardhanreddy Colony.

The SDPO warned that stringent action will be taken on those involved in illegal activities such as cricket and kabaddi betting, apart from selling narcotics.
