Bengaluru: A 27-year-old public relations executive of a private firm was robbed by two bike-borne muggers at the busy KFC junction in Kammanahalli, while she was returning home from work on her bike on Monday night.

Though she was gutsy enough to chase the muggers for some distance, while a number of passersby remained mute spectators, they succeeded in hoodwinking her and escaped at the next junction.

To add to her woes, when she reported the incident to the jurisdictional Banaswadi police, they convinced her to lodge a lost complaint and refused to register an FIR.

Rebecca Mendonza, a resident of Oil Mill Road, was on her way home from her office in Cunningham Road on Monday night. When she stopped her Honda Dio at the KFC signal for it to turn green, two bike-borne men stopped next to her.

“They were staring at me. Assuming they were eve-teasers, I chose to avoid them. However, while I just started moving my bike as the signal turned green, the pillion rider bent over and caught hold of my bag, kept in the legroom of my bike. I almost lost balance, but managed not to fall,” Rebecca told DC.

“I then chased them at least for half a kilometre until the next junction, but by then they had taken a right and sped away. I wanted to note down the registration number of their bike, also a Honda Dio, but the vehicle did not have a number plate,” added Rebecca.

Her bag contained her laptop, wallet which had ATM card, driving licence, PAN card and her house keys. After incident, she immediately called her bank to block her ATM card. “I was shocked that the incident happened around 8.30 pm when there was enough crowd and traffic on the road, but none came to help me or to chase the two men,” she said.

“When I went and reported the matter to the Banaswadi police, they told me that there are number of such incidents that were happening,” said Rebecca.
“A woman cop also told me that if I am going to lodge a complaint of robbery, then I will have to walk up and down to the court which will again be troublesome for me,” she added.

She told the police to do what was best for her. “They started writing the complaint on their own after hearing my story. They did not even give any acknowledgement or anything,” Rebecca said requesting the cops to at least access the CCTV footage of the incident, so that they can get clues about the culprits.
