Kochi: The State Police Complaints Authority on Wednesday visited Palakkad to consider a complaint alleging the dowry death of Sunitha alias Greeshma, 22, who was found hanging from the roof of her parents’ house at Kottayi near Palakkad  in 2012.

The SPCA headed by Justice Narayana Kurup decided to consider the case after Devu, mother of Sunitha, filed a complaint  alleging foul play in the death of her daughter.

The SPCA sought the stand of Alathur DySP in the case and he  informed that since the Hurt and Homicide Wing of the Crime Branch was conducting a probe, the  details of the case were  not available with them.

The victim's mother submitted that on June 22, 2012 Sunitha was found hanging from the roof of their  house.  Though the Alathur DySP conducted an initial probe,  nothing fruitful was found, she alleged.

According to the mother, soon after the body was found,  she asked the cops to wait for her husband and other relatives to come to the place. The SI of police, Kottayi,  however,  refused to consider her requests and took down the body and conducted a post-mortem immediately.

The body was later  cremated. She  submitted that though Sunitha's husband Sreejith and his relatives were living nearby,  they didn't  attend the funeral.

She further submitted that Sunitha  alone cannot climb and make a hook on the roof  which is nearly four metres high. There were several ante-mortem injuries too and blood was oozing out of her nose. The cops did not question Sreejith and his father who had openly threatened Sunitha.

She argued that Sreejith's parents had harassed her seeking dowry and blamed Kottayi SI for protecting the accused.
