Chennai: The initial findings of a probe ordered by the Tamil Nadu Government into the death of A.Valarmathi, who underwent weight loss surgery, has revealed that there was no medical negligence involved in the case.
“The report submitted by the special committee after the preliminary investigation states that there was no flaw by the hospital authority that led to the death of Valarmathi. Qualified specialists with appropriate equipments performed the surgery in an apt manner at the hospital and does not present any loopholes in the treatment provided to the deceased,”said Dr P.Banu, Director of Medical Services.
She added that the hospital was approved for the surgery that was performed by gastroenterologists after informing the kin of the patient about the condition and treatment being provided to the patient. However, the post-mortem report is awaited and will be submitted to the court.
Weighing 160 kg, Valarmathi was undergoing bariatric surgery for weight loss at a city hospital in Kilpauk for a month. The kin of the deceased had alleged medical negligence by the hospital. In an earlier statement, hospital authorities had said that she was suffering from hypertension, asthmatic issues and diabetes, along with hyperthyroid that developed complications post surgery.
