Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday issued notices to Aneeq Shafeeq Sayeed and Ismail Chaudhary, sentenced to death for the Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park blasts.
A division bench comprising Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice T. Amarnath Goud was dealing with two ‘refer trial’ cases by the 2nd additional metropolitan sessions judge of Hyderabad T. Srinivas Rao, seeking confirmation of death sentence under CrPC Section 366 that his court had awarded the convicts. While admitting both the cases, the bench directed the jail superintendent to serve notices and granted the convicts four weeks time to file their affidavits.
The trial court had found Shafeeq Sayeed, Ismail Chaudhary and Tariq Anjum Ahsan guilty in the twin bomb blast cases that claimed 42 lives in August 25, 2006. The court awarded the death penalty to Sayeed and Chaudhary and sentenced Anjum to life for sheltering the convicts. The court acquitted two others Sadique Ishrar Shaik and Faruque Sharfuddin in the case.
