5 Naxals arrested in Kondagaon district of Chhattisgarh

Police said the Naxals had laid an ambushed and when they entered the forest area, the Maoists opened fire at their convoy.

Kondagaon: The Chhattisgarh Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested five Naxals near Badagaon in Kondagaon district under the anti-Naxalite operation.

The Naxals were arrested on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday by a police team during patrolling.

Police said the Naxals had laid an ambushed and when they entered the forest area, the Maoists opened fire at their convoy, to which they retaliated.

Assuming that police would overpower them, the Naxals withdrew and started fleeing, however, the police party cordoned off the area and arrested five Maoists, said police.

The arrested Maoists have been identified by police as Singrai Kawade; Bhagat, alias, Chait Ram Poya; Sagnu Komra, mannu Potai; and Sukalu Ram.

Police claimed to have seized two tiffin bombs, two bundles of electric wire, four packets of gunpowder, one battery, three bullets of 12 bore rifle and two bullets of INSAS rifle among others.

A case has been registered at the Dhanora Police Station under sections 147 (punishment for rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence commit­ted in prosecution of common object) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian penal Code (IPC) and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act and various other acts.
