Tirur: Car, scooter of CPM activist set ablaze
The Tirur police has registered a case in connection with the incident and a probe is on.
MALAPPURAM: A two-wheeler and a car belonging to E. Sreekumar, the branch secretary of CPM, Pullooni near Tirur were set ablaze by unidentified miscreants on the wee hours of Saturday. The two-wheeler was completely gutted in the fire and the car was partially damaged. Both were parked in a shed adjacent to the house. Windows and electrical wiring of the house were also partially damaged. Sreekumar noticed the fire after he and wife woke up at around 2.30 am due to the heavy smoke. They immediately doused the fire and informed authorities. The Tirur police has registered a case in connection with the incident and a probe is on.
"This was not an accidental fire and the miscreants were suspected to have entered the premise thorough a gate at the backyard which was found open," Sreekumar said. The CPM local committee has alleged that the RSS workers were behind the incident. Earlier on Thursday, a group of RSS men had attacked and threatened media persons at Pullooni while covering the police raid at the house of K. Prajeeh, one of the RSS worker accused in the Faisal murder case in Kodinhi. The police have beefed up vigil in the area. "RSS workers have threatened me several times in the past despite my cordial relation with many BJP-RSS workers in the area," Sreekumar said.
