Bengaluru: A 17-year-old girl, who was upset over a marriage proposal, committed suicide by jumping from the terrace of a building in Begur police limits on Sunday night.
The deceased, Shravani, was the daughter of Nagamani and Chandrashekar, who hail from Andhra Pradesh. They have been staying on Begur Main Road for the last 15 years and have two daughters and a son. Their first daughter is married and stays in the city.
On Sunday, Shravani’s parents had gone to Chintamani in Kolar to visit one of their relatives and returned around 7 pm. They told Shravani that there was a marriage proposal for her and they would consider it only after she turned 18. They also told her that they would move further only if she agreed. But despite assurances from her parents, she was deeply upset and around 9.30 pm, she jumped off the terrace and died instantly, the police said.
The police rushed to the spot and investigated the scene, but did not find any suicide note in her room.
The Begur police have registered a case and are investigating.
