Chennai: A conman who took a city lawyer for a ride with an offer for a new hatch back car for just Rs 68,878 and made her to transfer money online early this month, was nabbed in West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.
The Andhra Pradesh police identified him as T. Sumanbabu, 42, who posed as K.S. Subramanian, general manager of German auto major, and cheated people.
“We nabbed him based on a complaint here. It seems the woman from Chennai is one of his victims,” said Bhaskar Bhushan, superintendent of police, West Godavari, when Deccan Chronicle contacted him.
The lawyer from Mylapore made an online transfer of money believing the man who claimed he was general manger. “He identified himself as K.S. Subramanian and was talking so convincingly in Tamil in Brahminical accent,” the lawyer said.
She also said though she preferred a complaint with Mylapore police station, investigators there showed no interest in the case.
