Andhra Pradesh: Fast-track courts to resolve women-related crimes
The State Women's Commission and standing committees are being set up for women's welfare and safety.
Nellore: The State Women's Commission chairperson, Ms Nannapaneni Rajakumari, announced that fast-track courts would be set up to resolve cases related to atrocities on women.
A mobile app called 'Abhayam' has been designed which will help special teams reach a spot within 15 minutes whenever there is an incident of eve-teasing or ragging against women and girls, she added.
Speaking to newsmen at the Padmavathi Guest House in Tirupati on Friday, she said that steps are being taken to strengthen the State Women's Commission and standing committees are being set up for women's welfare and safety. "We are taking steps to arrest and initiate stringent action against those performing child marriages," she said.
She dwelt at length on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's initiative in implementing various welfare schemes for women's empowerment. "We are taking steps to resolve over 200 cases that were registered from February to March 16 through the Women's Commission.
Most of the cases are related to dowry, harassment by in-laws, and rift between the husband and wife. The commission will conduct counselling for all those involved in these domestic violence cases and find an amicable solution," she said. Later, she visited the Mahila Pranganam which was constructed to suit the taste of former chief minister N.T Rama Rao.
She said that she would talk to the Chief Minister and work for the development of the Mahila Pranganam. She also interacted with women who were working as tailors at the facility. Mahila Pranganam manager K. Pramila participated in the programme.
