Thiruvananthapuram: Family roughed up by loan shark; probe on

Thiruvananthapuram: The Neyyattinkara police began a probe to find a loan shark who allegedly physically assaulted a family including a nine-year-old girl for the non-repayment of a loan on Monday night. The suspect was identified as Vimalkumar. He allegedly attacked the tipper lorry driver Anilkumar, 38; his wife Sreeja, 33, and daughter Anushree, 9, who reside at Kavalmukku near Neyyatinkara. Anilkumar, originally a resident of Karumkulam, had taken Rs 1 lakh as a loan from the suspect. He repaid around Rs 75,000 but defaulted in repaying the rest.

At around 7.30pm, Vimalkumar came and started an argument with Sreeja. He demanded sexual favours from her if her husband failed to return the money along with interest. Anilkumar who arrived there, heard the comments, and entered into a heated argument with the accused. Vimalkumar roughed up the family and he allegedly hit Anushree with a mobile phone. The family is admitted at Neyyatinkara General Hospital and the police has taken their statement. Sources said that Vimalkumar was earlier arrested during operation Kubera when the UDF government was in power and flaunted several political connections.
