13 suppliers, buyers of fake currency arrested

HYDERABAD: In a combined operation, sleuths of the Cyberabad special task force and Raidurgam police on Tuesday arrested 13 members of a wanted interstate counterfeit currency gang and seized notes having a face value of ₹30,68,500 and ₹65,000 from their possession.

The prime accused was identified as Koneti Rajesh, who used to invite customers to contact him through videos on Instagram and YouTube, Cyberabad police commissioner Stephen Ravindra said in a press meet.

The police said that social media sites were providing criminals with a platform to circulate fake currency.

The police said that Rajesh and his aide Neel Das came into contact with various counterfeit currency suppliers and manufacturers in southern states. A few of them were identified as Ramesh, of Telangana, Charan Singh, of Andhra Pradesh, and Suriya, of Tamil Nadu, Ravindra said.
